Bob was born on December 30, 1943 in DeLand, Florida. Like many children of his generation, Bob's father, Second Lieutenant Robert E. Murphy, had been killed in the line of duty in World War II just months before Bob's birth. His father was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart for his service and bravery, which Bob is seen holding in this picture.
